A Fresh Approach to Staff Health and Wellbeing
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust has rolled out an exciting refreshed version of its Health and Wellbeing Framework, emphasizing the importance of a thriving work culture. This new five-year plan, extending from 2025 to 2030, seeks to build a safe and nurturing environment where health and wellbeing are not just encouraged but are fundamental to organizational practices.
Empowering Teams with Wellbeing Champions
Central to this initiative is the expansion of the Wellbeing Champions network. Currently, the network comprises around 100 dedicated staff members who provide crucial peer support and promote various wellbeing activities. By 2030, the Trust envisions a Wellbeing Champion in every team, enhancing support for physical and mental health across the organization. Helen Hanna, a Wellbeing Champion, shares the transformative impact these programs have, facilitating activities from desk yoga to nutrition advice, fostering camaraderie and wellness among colleagues.
Improving Relationships and Enhancing Support
Maxine Williamson, Deputy Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, noted that the refreshed framework builds on previous advancements by focusing on improving workplace dynamics and relationships among teams. This holistic approach acknowledges that wellbeing is unique to each individual, offering various tailored programs to meet diverse needs. Initiatives such as improved psychological support and upgraded workplace facilities aim to create a healthier work environment where staff can thrive.

Vivienne Toal, Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, highlighted the Trust's unwavering commitment to practical improvements for staff health, which ultimately enhances the quality of care delivered to the community. With annual action plans to drive the initiative further, the Southern Health and Social Care Trust is paving the way toward a supportive atmosphere, where everyone is empowered to prioritize their wellbeing.
